This week, I am excited to be a guest on The Female Insight Zone, a popular podcast hosted by Maribeth Kuzmeski of Red Zone Marketing. Maribeth is also the founder of Red Zone Leadership Foundation, a 501(c)(3) formed to cultivate leadership skills of female professionals. In this 15 minute episode, we discuss women and entrepreneurship, how to create a memorable personal brand, and the importance of setting challenging business goals. Listen to the podcast at the link below.
Here are some of the key takeaways from the interview:
1. The riches are in the niches.
I’m always preaching about the importance of specialization. In fact, I took my own advice and started a side project in 2017, the Fiddle Leaf Fig Plant Resource Center. It is a specialist resource website, forum, and shop for a very specific, popular houseplant. We discuss how to embrace a niche to launch your credibility and presence in a specific market.
2. Focus on the metrics that drive success.
We review why looking at your numbers (site visitors, webinar registrations, sales calls, etc.) on a weekly basis keeps you honest about the performance of your business.
3. Outsource everything you can.
Build a talented team and delegate anything that is not a good use of your time. We discuss how to build a strong, reliable, and talented team. This allows you to focus on bigger picture projects and client service while leaving admin and more day to day tasks to your team. As business owners, time is often our most valuable asset, so get more of it wherever you can.
4. Create a memorable personal brand and tell your personal story.
Make it easy for people to remember you and explain why you are passionate about what you do. A positive, personal story is what attracts today’s savvy consumers.
5. The secret to content marketing is consistency.
Our regular blog posts keep us top-of-mind and drive business. We’ll discuss why you should give away 90% of what you know about a subject in the spirit of helping people.
6. To balance career and family, develop strong routines.
Either build a routine or outsource the things that are a priority for you, even if it means hiring experts such as a business coach and personal trainer.
